Stone stair treads are the material of choice for stairs in homes, offices, and public buildings. We classify treads as landscape stone because they are universally used outside. Others consider stone stair treads a building stone. Stone stair treads can last for decades, require little to no maintenance and are aesthetically beautiful. We offer ten different stone stair treads at Wicki Stone. The most common stair tread stone types are bluestone (overwhelmingly the most popular) and limestone. Bluestone stair treads are a bluish silver, limestone a off-white color. If you are looking for more color in your treads our other stone stair tread choices might fit the bill. From the fossil-like colors of our Jurassic treads, to the wood grain-like patterns in Teakwood treads we have a stair tread choice for almost any application. In addition, we have a huge on-site inventory of treads at our 10 acre New Jersey stone yard.
With multiple widths and lengths you'll have a wide variety of choices. Stair treads are almost universally 2 inches thick. The exception in our inventory is Luminaris - it is extremely strong granite and is only 1.5" thick. Our stone stair treads have four different edge finishing options. Sawn thermal is overwhelmingly the most popular. The edges are sawn and then heat treated to create a slightly textured finish. Rockface edges are lightly chiseled to give a natural, irregular edge. Eased Edge are beveled edges. Finally bull nose edges are created in our on-site fabrication facility and have a rounded edge(see examples below). Our on-site fabrication facility will also cut any tread to length, and we do radius cuts for curved stair treads.
To conclude, Wicki Stone offers one of the largest selections and deepest on-site inventories of stone stair treads in the New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania markets.

Stair Tread Edge Finish Options at Wicki Stone
Sawn Thermal Edge
This is an example of a sawn, thermal tread edge. The finish is slightly rough. This will be the finish on the front side of the tread. The side edges and back edge of the tread will have a sawn edge without the thermal finish. Sawn thermal finishes are standard on most bluestone treads.
Rockfaced Edge
A rock faced finish is created by chiseling the stone by hand. At our stoneyard the side edges and back edge of a rockfaced tread will have a sawn edge without the rockfaced finish. Rockfaced Finishes are standard on all our treads with the exception of bluestone.
Bull Nosed Edge
The front edge of this tread shows a bull nose finish . The finish is created by grinding and sanding. The side edges may have a bull nose finish, or may not - depending on your specific need and the back edge of the tread will have a sawn edge finish. Bull nose edges are always a custom finish.
Eased Edge
The front and side edge of this tread show an eased edge finish. The edge is softly rounded.
